The Mexican team will face Costa Rica in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup, next Saturday at AT&T Stadium. Joel Campbell, one of the best Costa Rican players, affirmed that it will be a nice match and that they are going for revenge.
Mexico has beaten Costa Rica in the last two Gold Cup matches. Both went to more than 90 minutes, so in recent years there have been very close matches between the two teams.
“Now facing the next match which is really important… a nice game, maybe the stadium will be full, it’s the quarterfinals, we want to advance, continue, it’s a great team Mexico, The last two games we’ve played have been very close matches, we’ve lost on penalties or overtime, let’s hope this is our chance to keep moving forward,” Campbell said.
The last meeting in the Gold Cup was in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Gold Cup. On that occasion, Mexico defeated Costa Rica on penalties after drawing 1-1 in 120 minutes with goals from Raúl Jiménez for Mexico and Bryan Ruiz for the Ticos.
“Enjoy them, it’s very nice to play in a full stadium, that’s the beauty of football, to play in a full stadium, and more when it is against, to enjoy that it is very beautiful, that is what this is about, ”commented the Costa Rican soccer player with a past in Mexican soccer in statements to ESPN.
The Costa Rican team has not beaten Mexico in an official match since 2013 in the Hexagonal towards the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, with goals from Bryan Ruiz and Álvaro Saborío.

The Costa Rican team beat Martinique 6-4 this Tuesday in a crazy match and got the ticket to the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup, where they will face Mexico.
