After officially announcing that he will return to the ring in September with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), David Faitelson, a sports journalist for ESPN, criticized Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez for preferring a fight with Jermall Charlo, his possible opponent.

In a post on his Twitter account, Faitelson assured that Canelo Álvarez fled from fights with Dmitry Bivol and David Benavídez to fight Charlo, who has been inactive for two years and will debut at super middleweight.

“Canelo returns to ‘feint’ his own responsibility. Neither Bivol, who “flees” because of his style, nor Benavídez, who is the best contender in 168. It should be noted that Jermall Charlo has stayed away from the ring for a couple of years due to a back injury and mental health issues. The World Boxing Council (WBC) American middleweight champion last stood out in June 2021, when he defeated Juan Macías Montiel via unanimous decision, and has averaged one outing per year since 2020.

On the other hand, Canelo Álvarez, after defending his undisputed title against John Ryder in Mexico last May, was interested in a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, but a disagreement over weight where the fight would take place ended up cooling the negotiations. After ruling out Badou Jack and rejecting David Benavídez’s offer, the Guadalajara went in search of Charlo, who was also in his plans after defeating the British.

Jermall Charlo, WBC middleweight champion, He has an undefeated record in the sport after 32 fights with 22 knockouts. For his part, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is the undisputed Mexican super middleweight champion and has a record of 58 wins (39 fast track) and two losses as a professional boxer.
