A man armed with a knife was shot by police after he threatened hotel staff early Sunday morning in the Little Tokyo area of downtown Los Angeles.
He Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reported that at approximately 3:30 am, the suspect, who may be homeless, entered the lobby of the Miyako Hotel, 328 1st Street, near the intersection with San Pedro, armed with a knife.
The authorities said that the subject refused officers’ orders to drop the knifeuntil a shooting occurred involving an LAPD officer.
The suspect was injured by at least two gunshots.He was taken to a nearby hospital and reported in stable condition.
No other people or police officers were reported injured in this shooting.
Some of the hotel guests woke up from the ruckuswhile authorities did not allow residents near the area of the shooting to return to their homes due to a hostage situation that escalated into a shootout.
“(Approximately) 3:30 am I heard a lot of police cars and ambulances. I got up at 5:00 am, got off the elevator to leave the city, and there was blood all over the floor,” said a hotel guest who was about to leave for the airport.
The related inquiry into the causes of this incident is under the direction of the Los Angeles Police Department Force Investigative Division.
