Eddie Hearn, promoter of Matchroom Boxing, He does not believe that the agreed weight is unreasonable that Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez asked to fight Badou Jack for the World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight title.

In an interview with The DANZ Boxing Show, Hearn commented that Canelo Alvarez cannot be faulted for asking Jack, a former light heavyweight fighter, to drop 20 pounds. The promoter added that It seems dangerous for the Mexican to fight at 200 pounds and, in his opinion, that should not be allowed.

“I wasn’t involved in those discussions, but at the end of the day, Canelo is a 168 pound fighter, so if he’s asking for 180 I don’t think that’s too unreasonable. You can’t fault Canelo for asking a cruiserweight who used to box super middleweight to drop to five pounds over the light heavyweight (limit). You can’t expect Saul to go and say, ‘yes, I’ll fight you at 200 pounds,’” he said.

“Not even (Canelo) could weigh more than 180 pounds if he tried, so he would be giving up 20 pounds, probably 30 pounds. It is dangerous. He is willing to go up to 175 to fight guys like Bivol and Kovalevbut you can’t go up to 200 or 190. That shouldn’t be allowed,” he added.

It should be noted that Badou Jack announced on his social networks that he would not fight with Canelo Álvarez because he was asked to drop 20 pounds below the cruiserweight limit plus a rehydration clause to be able to face each other, conditions that the Swedish boxer did not accept.

“I will not fight ‘Canelo’ in the next fight. They said that the difference in weight is a lot. They wanted to squeeze this old man and fight me 20 pounds under cruiserweight. for the title. And also, with a rehydration clause. Canelo, give the fans what they want to see and fight David Benavídez,” he wrote on his official Twitter account.

After the failure in with Jack, now The Mexican is in negotiations with Jermall Charlo, WBC middleweight champion. There was already a first approach with Al Haymon, founder of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), by the Guadalajara team and it is expected that the fight can take place in September.

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is the undisputed Mexican super middleweight champion and has a record of 58 wins (39 fast track) and two losses. For his part, Badou Jack, 39, is the WBC cruiserweight champion and He has a record of 24 wins (14 knockouts), 3 losses and 3 draws.
