This Tuesday, the Washington, DC Metro reported that it will renew the rates for low-income customers who will get 50% discountThis will be done through a selection of beneficiaries applying to the Metro Lift program.

According to the statement, registrations begin on June 26 and appointments for it began this Tuesday. Metro General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke noted that “Metro Lift Expands Our Reduced Fare Program Offerings and it gives us another opportunity to make transit accessible,” he said.

The 50% discount could reduce trips to $1 dollar by bus and a maximum of $3 dollars by train, this will depend on the distance. The good news is that Recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the states of Maryland, Virginia also qualify.

“Everyone deserves safe, affordable and reliable transportation, and Metro Lift provides more access for those who need it,” Clarke added in the statement.

In this sense, those interested in enrolling in the Metro Lift program can do so in person at the Metro Center station or New Carrollton Metro offices in Hyattsville, Maryland and must have a US government-issued photo ID from either Maryland or Virginia or DC.

Once registered, the traveler will have a SmarTrip recharge card within 48 hours, as well as each member of the household that receives SNAP benefits. To register online, you can do so through the website wmata.com/MetroLift.
