After Sampson Lewkowicz announced that David Benavídez and David Morrell had a deal to fight, the Mexican Monster He denied this information and assured that they are not going to face the Cuban.

In an interview with Fight Hype, Benavidez expressed that there is a lot of fake news circulating, but nothing is official. He stated that at the moment he is interested in fighting Jaime Munguía because it would be a duel between two big names.

“There is no agreed fight with Morrell. Yesterday I saw that they said that I already agreed to the fight, but it’s the first time I’ve seen that. We’re not going to fight Morrell. He has been putting out a lot of information saying that we agreed to fight. I have not seen anything, I have not agreed with anything”, said.

“I’m trying to make the big fights happen. We want to fight Jaime Munguía. He moved up to 168 pounds and I think that would be a great fight.. Two big names, but if we don’t make the fight with him, we’d probably make the fight with Morrell. There’s a lot of fake news coming out, but if it’s not coming from me, it’s not official,” he added.

Notably, promoter Sampson Lewkowicz confirmed to Dan Rafael for Fight Freaks Unite that David Benavídez and David Morrell they would meet in October or November on a Premier Boxing Champions (PCB) card and that it would be televised by Showtime PPV.

“We have an agreement. This is the plan. We are with the same television. It’s easy to come to an agreement. I firmly believe that she will be more competitive than she would be with Canelo Álvarez. I think Canelo would not go more than six rounds with Benavídez and with Morrell it is a coin toss. It’s a great fight. I think the most important thing is that this is a great fight for the public,” she declared.

David Benavídez, interim 168-pound champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), has a record of 27 wins, 23 of them on the fast track and no setbacks.
