Golden Boy Promotions, Óscar de la Hoya’s promoting company, filed a lawsuit this Friday against Ryan García in Nevada which aims to prevent the fighter from abandoning the current contract between the parties.

Ryan Garcia’s team allegedly contacted the Los Angeles promoter in recent days alleging contractual violations, according to Mike Coppinger, an ESPN reporter.

It is worth mentioning that The relationship between Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy Promotions soured following the 24-year-old’s loss to Gervonta Davis on April 22. In Las Vegas. Garcia and De la Hoya even had a rare exchange of public messages on social media in which the fighter complained again about being left alone at the post-fight press conference and the promoter told him to stop blaming others for it. their mistakes.

But Golden Boy Promotions has no interest in ending its relationship with García, as happened when Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez sued the promoter to get out of his contract a few years ago.

“Golden Boy has been proud to have worked with Ryan Garcia for several recent years and helped catapult him to the kind of stardom that spawned boxing’s biggest pay-per-view event in years just two months ago,” the promoter said. in a statement this Friday.

“With this lawsuit we are seeking to ensure that Ryan and his team honor the remainder of his contract, a contract that Ryan himself called ‘one of the most lucrative boxing deals for a prospect in history. of this sport. Since then, Ryan has developed into a legitimate contender, and we will continue to present Ryan with the best possible opponents that could eventually lead him to a world championship and a storied legacy.”

Another recent public run-in between Garcia and De La Hoya occurred when the promoter brought up the idea of a fight against Manny Pacquiao, which was promptly rejected by a clearly upset Garcia.

At the aforementioned press conference after Garcia’s first loss as a professional, Joe Goosen, Garcia’s coach who was fired almost immediately, was also absent.

A “hydration” clause accepted by Garcia’s team for the fight with Davis, highly criticized by boxing experts, has been another reason for the affected relationship between the fighter and his promoter. That decision that put Garcia at a disadvantage on fight night was influenced by Lupe Valencia, Garcia’s attorney and adviser who is also reportedly named in the Golden Boy Promotions lawsuit.
