The NBA made a decision this Friday regarding Ja Morant and decided to suspend him for 25 games for the 2023-2024 season. after appearing in several videos with an alleged firearm.
The player is the second time he has been suspended by the basketball league for appearing in videos showing firearms. The last video was after the postseason during a live broadcast on Instagram where he was observed with a weapon although they never revealed if it was fake.
This suspension represents a quarter of the season, because the NBA plays 82 games during the regular season.
“This is a journey and I recognize that there is more work to be done. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full responsibility for my actions. I am committed to keep working on myself.” Ja Morant said after the last video that came out on social networks.
After that video, NBA commissioner Adam Silver stressed that he was in shock and that the league would make a decision after the league finals ended so as not to interrupt the championship.
“An eight-game ban was very serious and I thought he took it very seriously. We talked about that and what it could mean not only in his careerbut also of the risks, of being able to kill someone with such behavior, “added Silver after the first suspension.
Morant was suspended in the middle of the regular season after being filmed at a nightclub with girdles of money, several women and firearms. The escort agreed to rehabilitate in a camp and the league only suspended him for 8 games.
Ja Morant’s salary for 2023-2024
Ja Morant signed a 5-year contract for 194,300,000 million dollars in 2019. This year he is expected to receive $33.5 million. so he could lose up to nearly $3,000 per game this year.
The Memphis Grizzlies manager would lose up to $5 million from his contract after the 25 games of suspension with the team.
Memphis lost this year in the postseason in five games to the Los Angeles Lakers. Morant is one of the highest contracted players in the NBA.
