After various operations carried out in Guanajuato, in central Mexico, Sergio “N”, alias “El Yey”, was captured, in addition to the seizure of doses of drugs, weapons, magazines and cartridges, as well as communication equipment.

According to the authorities, “El Yey” is designated as a lieutenant of the criminal group Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), who already has a valid arrest warrant for the crime of qualified homicide.

Simultaneously, a search was carried out in another property where José Juan “N” was arrested. Marijuana plants, green and dry grass, as well as wrappers of a granulated substance were also found at the site.

The authorities also found a vehicle, doses of drugs and Diazepan strips in another property, while doses of possible cocaine and even a telescopic sight for a long weapon, checks and other objects were found in another house.

Finally, the authorities announced the arrest of two other armed subjects who were surprised by the authorities when they were carrying out surveillance work.

“El Yey” was identified as the alleged leader of the criminal group led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes in newspaper reports.

In recent years, Guanajuato became a nerve center of violence in Mexico, ranking as one of the states with the highest rate of murders related to organized crime.

According to experts, Guanajuato is experiencing a wave of unstoppable violence, the product of a war between the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) and a confederation made up of the Sinaloa Cartel, the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel, the Union of León and Los Viagras.

This is because the state is an attractive market for drug dealing and above all, due to its geographical position, it has a high rate of fuel theft, known as “huachicoleo.”
