US border agents used a Black Hawk helicopter to rescue an injured Guatemalan migrant with a cable in rugged terrain in the mountains of southern Arizona, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office reported Thursday.
The agency said in a statement that its Air and Maritime Operations (AMO) unit received an emergency call from the 37-year-old woman on Monday, which led to the dispatch of the helicopter.
After the migrant was located, a relief specialist who is also an emergency medical technician descended from the helicopter harnessed to the 30-meter cable and evaluated the condition of the woman.
The lifeguard outfitted the injured woman with a vest, goggles and helmet, and put out the fire the Guatemalan woman had lit. Both were then hoisted into the helicopter.
CBP reported that the woman was taken to the San Miguel Advanced Operations Base and from there First responders took her to the Indian Hospital in the town of Sells for evaluation and treatment..
