In the midst of the environmental crisis that exists around the world, Pope Francis called for the “transformation of lifestyles” and “repentance for ecological sins” that “harm the natural world” so that future generations avoid the worst consequences of climate change.

In that sense, the Holy Father said that the world must quickly get rid of fossil fuels and put an end to “the senseless war against creation.”

The leader of the Catholic church said that, “In accordance with the commitments made in the Paris Agreement to curb global warming, it is absurd to allow the continued exploration and expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure”.

“The rampant burning of fossil fuels and the destruction of forests are raising temperatures and causing massive droughts,” said the pope, who also criticized oil and gas fracking and “uncontrolled mining megaprojects”.

Francisco lamented that “rapacious consumerism, fed by selfish hearts, is disturbing the planet’s water cycle. The rampant use of fossil fuels and the clearing of forests are causing rising temperatures and severe droughts.”

The leader of the Catholic Church also asked to “stand by the side of the victims of environmental and climate injustice” raising his voice to stop the advance of climate change, a “senseless war against creation” whose most serious consequences will suffer “the poor” and the new generations.

The cleric went further, and He pointed to “predatory industries” as guilty of “extreme practices” and the intensive farming of animals that “are consuming and contaminating the planet’s drinking water sources.”
