The American streaming platform, Netflix had previously announced that it would begin to restrict the sharing of passwords in the United States, so this week it reported that officially its campaign to control this behavior in its users has already begun.

The company mentioned that “we have always tried to make sharing within a member’s home easy, with features like profiles and multiple streams. While these have been very popular, have created confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared with other households”, said.

In this sense, the entertainment company highlighted this Tuesday that it has already begun to send all of its US subscribers an email notifying them of the new measure. “Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with in your home,” highlights part of the letter.

Taking into account that more than 100 million homes around the world use this mode, this Netflix strategy to limit the sharing of passwords, promotes a new measure of additional collection for those users who want to share their access with others outside the home, they will be charged $7.99 per month.

On the other hand, Netflix explained that in recent months there has been an increase of more than 1.75 million subscribers, although it is well below the 3 million expected by Wall Street analysts, these new users represent 5% more than a year ago.

Although the news about the shared payment was not well received by some users, representing itself in the company’s earnings, Netflix assured that over the months it has seen a greater “acquisition and increase in revenue.”
