The coronavirus does not give truce in Los Angeles and each week seems to be worse than the previous one with more deaths and new cases, according to data from the county Department of Public Health.

Only on Monday were reported 12, 617 new infections and 137 deaths , for a total of 12, 387 deceased. The number is even more alarming when authorities state that currently in Los Angeles County one person dies of coronavirus every 8 minutes.

County is rapidly approaching 1 million cases and could arrive as early as this week, considering there is a cumulative of 932, 697 cases and on average 13, 000 new infections daily.

The level of spread is so high that On Monday the director of the department, Bárbara Ferrer recommended the use of face masks even when being at home , mainly in those homes in those in which there are elderly or chronically ill people and in which a family member must leave permanently to work or perform essential activities .

“Doing so will give you an extra layer of protection while we go through this wave,” said the director when giving the recommendation.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles hospitals are still crowded and there are 7, 910 hospitalized coronavirus patients , which has forced the ambulance emergency services to decide who is transferred to a care center or who is not, depending on the possibilities. Survival rates for each patient and the availability of intensive care beds.

Reports ensure that not only hospitals are full, but also morgues and funeral homes.
