Melanie Barcenas, a San Diego-born soccer player with Mexican roots, who became the youngest signing in NWSL history, when she was incorporated into the team when she was only 15 years old. The young player signed a three-year contract and became the first footballer of this age to be considered for life in the American league.

Barcenas comes to share a dressing room with none other than Alex Morgan, one of the biggest idols in women’s football and from whom he had also gotten his shirt a few years ago in clear show of admiration. It was at the Mission Valley stadium when they were playing Brazil vs. the United States, there the 10-year-old girl at the time asked for the shirt and her idol gave it to her.

The young player has been trained at San Diego Surf and from there she was summoned to the United States in the sub-14, sub-15 and sub-16 categories, she was also the youngest soccer player in the United States sub-17 team, in 2022 she was called up by Mexico and the stars and stripes team.
