Ruud Val Nistelrooy was one of the best players in recent years for the Netherlands. He lived his best time at Manchester United with Alex Ferguson, but he also won trophies at Real Madrid.

The Dutchman left the team after seasons and realized that there was no room for him with players like Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. But for Nistelrooy, leaving Madrid was a mistake.

“I shouldn’t have left Madrid then. Manuel Pellegrini was our coach and he signed Karim Benzema, Kaká and Ronaldo. There was no place for me anymore. I accepted it, also because I was 33 years old. But I wanted to go to the World Cup in 2010, so I decided to go to Hamburg. I made that decision too quickly if I look back. Also, it was not the right time for my family to leave either”, said the striker.

With Real Madrid he played 96 games and scored 67 goals. He also won two leagues and two Spanish Super Cups.

For Ruud Val Nistelrooy, the best coach he ever shared the dressing room with was Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. In the English club he scored 150 goals and won three titles.

“Sir Alex Ferguson, without a doubt. I was with him for five years. He had never been with any other coach for that long. When you see what he left at the club… He is by far the best”.

The last club the Dutch striker played for was Málaga in Spain, which reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League. There he shared a dressing room with Joaquín, one of the best Spanish players in the last 20 years.

“I played with him at Malaga. He is a television personality. He is known for his jokes, very funny, but he has a very strong character ”. Between Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he has it clear. “I always say Ronaldo, because I played with him,” says Van Nistelrooy, who shared the dressing room with the Portuguese at both United and Real Madrid.
