LA Galaxy matched worst start in team history in MLS after another draw

Reinaldo Oliveros

The LA Galaxy team drew 0-0 this Saturday with the Portland Timbers and continues the winless streak after four days, which marks the worst start for the franchise in MLS history.

The Los Angeles team has scored 2 goals in the first 4 games and in this match they finished off up to 17 times against the Portland Timbers goal and hit two posts, but was unable to score at least one.

The Timbers finished the game with ten men due to a serious knee injury to David Bingham, who was replaced by defender Justin Rasmussen in the dying minutes of added time.

Greg Vanney’s side were not without commitment and, with Spaniard Riqui Puig in charge of midfield operations, they narrowly missed the lead in the first half when Preston Judd’s left-footed shot hit the far post.

It was not until the second half that the Timbers, who started the year with a win and three consecutive losses, had their first opportunity.

It was the turn of the Polish Jaroslaw Niezgoda, who forgave against the rival goal after a defensive failure in the area of the Uruguayan Martín Cáceres.

The advantage of LA Galaxy is that they have only lost one of the 4 gamesbut the team has felt the absence of Javier Chicharito Hernández a lot due to the clear lack of goals.

Hernández scored 19 goals in the 2022 season for the Galaxy team that contributed to 11 wins of the club and only two defeats.

Chicharito was injured early in the season after a relapse of hamstring pain in his right leg that had bothered him last season. So far there is no return date for the Mexican striker who missed the preseason games and the first four dates of the tournament.

LA Galaxy are eleventh in the Western Conference, with three points, while the Timbers are eighth, with four points.
