Connecticut man has been walking barefoot for more than 20 years, this is his story

Walking barefoot seems not to be so prominent, but doing it for more than 20 years Yes, it can be something to attract attention, such is the case of a Connecticut man who’s been walking barefoot that long.

Joseph DeRuvo Jr., of Norwalk, Connecticut, is the name of the man who gave up footwear more than two decades ago, after suffering painful bunions on his feet, and has walked barefoot ever since.

The man who is now 59 years old, He does not remember the exact day on which he decided to give up footwear permanentlybut remember that it was about five years before Apple’s first iPhone (2002) came out.

Joseph DeRuvo Jr. had developed bunions on both feet, which ached when he went running in tight-fitting shoes. A doctor recommended surgery to relieve the pain, but before undergoing the intervention, the ex-photographer decided to walk barefoot because the pain in his feet was very intenseeither.

While thinking about the operation, DeRuvo Jr. learned that the screws that were to be inserted into his feet contained a metal to which he was allergic, and also realized that he felt much better. In the end, he gave up on the operation and decided to adopt a barefoot lifestyle.

Aside from his medical reasons for going barefoot, Joseph DeRuvo Jr. he states that he has gotten so used to walking barefoot that whenever he does not feel the ground under his feet he becomes a little more nervous than usual. When his feet make direct contact with the ground, he literally feels more grounded.

“Tactile feedback makes everything else smoother”Joseph recently told the New York Times.

problems with society

The biggest problems DeRuvo has had during these more than two decades of walking barefoot have not been with the health of his feet or the danger of getting hurt, but rather with society, which sometimes limits the entrance to certain places.

Joseph DeRuvo Jr. and his wife Lini Ecker get kicked out of a lot of places. Apparently, people are not comfortable with someone who is barefoot, even if they otherwise act completely normal.

Since certain situations force you to wear shoes, such as going out with friends to restaurants that you know you cannot enter barefoot, Joseph has a loose pair of sandals in the car.e, but he only puts them on when absolutely necessary.
