It was inside an exhibition center in New Orleans, United States, in 2021 where the flagship car of the Porsche electric range called the Taycan, achieved a new Guinness record for its record.
In the footsteps of American pilot Leh Keen, andl Taycan reached 165.1 km/h (102 mph), the highest speed ever achieved by a vehicle in an enclosed buildingseeing through the rear-view mirror the previous mark achieved that registered about 138.4 km/h (86 mph), which had not been beaten for a little over 7 years.
The confidence conveyed by the Taycan Turbo S, which features four-wheel drive to maximize grip, powerful carbon ceramic brakes and the ability to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds (0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds), allowed Leh to comply with the most difficult rule in Guinness World Records: he had to start and finish the attempt with the car parked and inside the building.
The place that hosted the milestone was the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, in New Orleans (Louisiana), which has a space of more than 9 hectares, ranking as the largest enclosed space for exhibitions in the United States.
On his first attempt, Leh Keen managed to get to the finish line, using progressive acceleration with low-speed test runs as a strategy. “That wall was coming up very quickly. In the end, the Taycan’s brakes were more than up to scratch. Of course, I didn’t look at my speed, so it was a surprise and a relief to know that I had broken the record by such a big margin,” he said.
It should be noted that, at the beginning of 2021, Porsche reported that, despite the crisis caused by the global pandemic, during 2020 it managed to sell more than 20,000 copies of its Taycan model.
On the other hand, the German automotive giant announced that the electric version of its Macan model is already in the manufacturing process. “The car will be produced in Leipzig and its manufacturing is under development, this will come in the next few years,” said Cristoph Klein, Sales & Network Development Director of Porsche Latin America.
