Five people were injured in a shooting that occurred this Saturday night on a beach in San Pedro, Los Angeles.an incident for which the police are looking for a suspect.
According to Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD)the gunshots were reported at approximately 5:45 pm in Royal Palms Beach, near Paseo del Mar and Graysby Avenue.
The authorities said that a subject had had a confrontation with a group of people on the beach of San Pedro and at one point the shooting occurred.
In the first reports, the LAPD had reported that they were looking for two suspects allegedly involved in the incident, but Authorities later said only one suspect was wanted for this shooting..
According to a report released on Saturday night, a victim was reported to the hospital in critical condition and the other four in stable condition.
Initially, the Los Angeles police had indications that only four adults had been injured as a result of the shots, but it was later reported that a minor was a fifth victim as he was also injured in the shooting.
According to police, the suspect reportedly fled the scene of the shooting in a silver sedan.
The four victims reported in stable condition were taken to hospitals by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, while the victim reported in critical condition was transferred by a private individual, the authorities reported.
“It is tragically ironic that today we are hosting a gun buyback event just a few miles away from this location. Gun violence is wreaking havoc in our community,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn; and Los Angeles City Councilman Tim McOsker in a joint statement.
It was reported that Royal Palms Beach will be closed this Sunday.
Officials are considering changing the hours to close the beach earlier on weekends to make the area safer for visitors.
