When at their best they were the Águilas del América were thrashed by Tuzos del Pachuca 0-3 and in its nest, the Azteca Stadium.
The hard defeat at home has upset the entire team, starting with the fans, who did not hesitate to whistle and boo several players from the squad, being Miguel Layún and Óscar Jiménez the main designated for the azulcremas fans who were present at the Azteca on March 5.
Without running away from the reflectors and the declarations, Miguel Layún showed his face in the media to respond to the boos that various sectors of America dedicated to him.
“It was very clear that when you and Óscar Jiménez touched the ball, the boos resounded,” was the question of one of the journalists to the left defender, to which he replied: “None of us is hiding, we are here to show our faces. You have to know how to grab the bull by the hornsIt’s the only way to get ahead.”
In the same vein of making a call to move on and forget the humiliating defeat against Pachuca (champion of the 2022 Opening Tournament), Layún ordered the cream-blue fans to “remember what has been the essence for years” of America.
“This team has been used to being in the worst situations and getting ahead”

He also stressed that the players will face criticism because “People have every right to express themselves”. The team’s next match in this 2023 Liga MX Clausura will be decisive for América’s aspirations: against UANL Tigres on Saturday, March 11, visiting the Nuevo León University Stadium.
Response to Miguel Layún through social networks
The responses of the fans through social networks were not satisfactory. Most of the comments rejected what was said by the second captain of America.
One of them appealed to the recent memory of the team: “You have to remind Layún that the people of America do have memories, and we have to We remember that the club has not won ANYTHING since 2019, and several players who still follow, have been a key factor in those failures after failures. In America, either you are a champion or you are not worth anything.
“He’s right that we don’t forget that they can get ahead, the problem is that it’s been 4 years or so that they just did nothing,” said another azulcrema fan.
