Carlos Vela, captain and franchise player of LAFC, defended Gareth Bale after the player announced his retirement from football after playing his last season with Los Angeles Football Club and being champion of the season.
The Mexican soccer player revealed that there was a lot of expectation on his arrival about how he would impact the team, but after sharing with the Cardiff Expresso, Vela expressed that it was incredible.
“It was a great experience playing with people of that level, with everything he achieved in Europe, five UEFA Champions League, with the name that came, one is there from: ‘how
will come? What attitude?’ He is a little doubtful, but everything was incredible, ”she noted.
Bale was widely criticized during his last spell with Real Madrid and the spell with LAFC because he did not take football seriously and he preferred to do other things like play golf, so the Welshman was constantly getting injured.
“I think he came with a great attitude, I got to know the person and not what the press can see. I could see how humble, how calm, how nice what it is and to be able to have that time to share experience, to be able to win a title, the goal he scored, and live those good moments”, Vela said about his relationship with Gareth Bale.
Bale was instrumental in LAFC’s clinching of the title after he scored a goal in extra time in the final to force penalties and then win the game in that instance.
“It is what I value a lot about football, that it gives you that opportunity to really meet people, not what they make you believe. Many people have an image of someone who is not, in the end what the press says is what is believed and they do not really know what is happening and with Bale it was that, I was able to meet him”, said the Mexican.
Bale made just 14 appearances and scored 3 goals in an LAFC jersey in one season, but he won the MLS title and plenty of praise from his teammates.
