“We come from that school that have left their hearts and have given their lives to the mariachi”, thus summarizes Andrés González, vocalist and violinist of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlánwith the responsibility of carry on the legacy of 6 generations, and 126 years of success and history.
This coming April 14 begins a new adventure, a tour of the most important cities in the United States, starting with Fresno, California.. But first, we spoke exclusively with Andrés on behalf of everyone, who showed us his roots and his mariachi heart.
– What does it mean to bring Mexican roots to the world?
Mariachi Vargas: We are very happy, and also very proud to be able to show all our history to all our public… It is already 126 years of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. ‘Mexicans from the Root’, is the title of our tour this year, and it really gives us great joy to know that we are going to be close to all our audiencein each city of the American Union.
-What is it like to feel Mexican from the roots?
Mariachi Vargas: It is synonymous with pride, showing our roots, our culture, our traditions… We in mariachi music come with that DNA, with mariachi music in our blood, because it belongs to our grandparents, my father, my uncles, brothers. Inside my mother I was already singing, almost playing the instrument, we have that fortune, thank God, of being able to grow with that beautiful tradition, and then roots of Mexico, mariachi music is what represents us throughout the worldand that is what we want to leave, again, in each of the places where Mariachi Vargas is going to set foot on his tour, tell them: “Here is Mexico, here is Mariachi Vargas, here is Mexican music”and show them all our musical heart.
-There are 126 years, six generations, how is the spirit of Mariachi Vargas maintained?
Mariachi Vargas: It is a huge responsibility, a great commitment that we have had in each of the elements that have been part of this beautiful history of the Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán institutionand from the first generations, from its beginnings, we come from that school that has left its heart, has given its life to Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, to Mexican music.
We have continued throughout all these generations, we have soaked ourselves quite a bit in everything that is this beautiful tradition, this beautiful trade that is the mariachYo. It is a great commitment, to continue leaving the legacy very high for the new generations, who in some future will be part of Mariachi Vargas, who are the ones who will continue to show Mexico in all parts of the world, we have this great commitment. God willing that he really gives us a lot of energy, gives us health, continues to give us that mariachi spirit, that happy heart to be able to continue with that story many more years.
-What have been those tips that you carry in your mind and in your heart, that previous generations have given you?
Mariachi Vargas: we have learned professionalism, discipline, study, the necessary preparation to also be part of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlánto demonstrate, to be able to show the public, the professionalism, that talent… We have learned from all past generations discipline, perseverance, not to let our guard down, to always be showing that great affection. and love that we have for Mexican music.
-They have accompanied generations, and they have also reinvented themselves and have adapted to the times, how have they achieved it?
Mariachi Vargas: It is also part of us, to go looking forward, to go learning new things, to go innovating our music. Of course, what was the golden age, which was a watershed for Mariachi Vargas, so that it was also at that level with Luis Miguel, and all the Mexican idols, so for us it has been to be innovating, to be learning more with new topics. Inclusive right now we are including new songs, classic mariachi songs. We have one that we are promoting on the radio, on social networks, Youtube, a very nice video, of a song called ‘My Best Error’.

Mariachi Vargas: Yeah, It is adorned by a Mexican beauty, our friend Kate del Castillo, who honors us to be in our videoand really for so many years of friendship with her, and that she has accommodated the dates, and that they have accommodated everything in the project so that she could enter our video. We want to show the new face of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, although we do not forget all our traditionof everything he has also touched for years, all our golden age repertoire, tributes to all our idols, but now the new face, for the new generationsfor the new ears that are the new young people, who are now turning to see the Mexican music of today.
It is a great commitment that we have, We are trying to innovate, with a new tour, we are going to Jalisco, we are going to go to Europe again, we are going to go to Asia again, we are going to go to South America… We are preparing this tour and ourselves professionally to be one hundred percent for our audience.
–On the tour that begins in what you call your second home, the United States, what will the public see?
Mariachi Vargas: We really have so many surprises, I have been asked a lot if we have a few guests, Up to now we have focused a lot on the solo project of Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán. For years it was the musical framework for many idols, and all the artists, but right now on our tour, we have so many songs, new music, new compositions…
The American Union is our second home, we see that there are so many Latino people here, both Mexican countrymen, and also Latin Americans who have really liked our music.and that they have also left their lands, they have left their country to come to the American dream, to come looking for a better life, And the truth is when Mariachi Vargas arrives, we realize that the music, what we bring, they live with the mariachi, and it gives us so much joy to see that they enjoy it and it gives us nostalgia, mixed feelings, it gives us nostalgia and many very beautiful emotions, and that is what we deal with in each concert.
-You are going to visit all the most important cities in the United States, the tour is impressive, how are you received by the public in each place?
Mariachi Vargas: We are practically very well apapachados, as we say in Mexico, we are very well received, really It gives us so much pleasure to see so many beautiful people and so much attention, so much applause, so much shouting, to see people crying with our music, with all the repertoire, they are blessings for usand to continue promoting Mexican music… In the American Union we started in California, on April 14 in Fresno, and on April 15 in Los Angeles, at the YouTube Theater, one of the also massive concerts that we have for the entire public.
What do you say to the public, who, in every corner of the world, are always evoking and missing and filling their hearts with your music?
Mariachi Vargas: Thank you all very much, our audience for so much affection, therefore, love and for applauding us at each of the concerts.
