An arrest that culminated in the death of the detainee has unleashed controversy in Mexico City, as relatives of the victim assure that the police officers involved used excessive forcecausing the death of the young man, who was identified as Bryan.
According to the newspaper El Gráfico, Bryan and his girlfriend were arguing on public roads, the fight escalated, so the woman pressed one of the panic buttons installed in the country’s capital. Meanwhile, the man went to his house, located in the Coyoacán mayor’s office.
Said media detailed that several police officers arrived at the scene and detained him, arguing that they had received a report of auto parts theft, but his brother and other relatives tried unsuccessfully to prevent him from taking it away. In addition, they said that the agents had the young man on the ground and were on him, The neighbors report that they saw him passed out on the pavement and they put him in the patrol car.
According to the family, they searched for Bryan for several hours in the Public Ministry agencies, until they found him. But they also detail various irregularities, such as The death certificate indicated that death occurred at 4:30 a.m., but they were reported until after 10:00 p.m..
The father of the 24-year-old man reported that there was not a single part of his body that did not have bruises.
Because of everything that happened, family and friends held a demonstration to demand justice, and demanded that the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office give them a report on all the police officers involved in the arrest, since there are only two in custody.
Position of the authorities
The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC) issued an information card in which it explained that two police officers were detained for Bryan’s death.
He indicated that the deceased today was arrested for a report of auto parts theft and that several people tried to prevent the arrest, so after controlling the situation the troops took the person involved on board a unit, where they realized that said person did not respond, for which medical support was requested.
Paramedics from the Rescue and Emergency Medical Squad (ERUM) who went to the site diagnosed him without vital signs due to etiology to be determined. As a result, the ministerial authorities were informed and the corresponding expert services were requested.
The agency reported that the General Directorate of Internal Affairs of the SSC learned of what had happened and opened an internal investigation folder to collaborate with the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office.
Finally, a statement was issued in which it is ensured that the Citizen Security Secretariat disapproves of any conduct outside the regulatory framework, and reiterates that it will not tolerate any type of abuse of authority.
