Through a statement, authorities reported that the Cherry was one of the main members of the CJNG group for which he coordinated the transport of drugs to the United States , as well as money laundering resulting from the sale of drugs.
“The Government of Mexico granted the extradition of the defendant to the United States Government. According to investigations, el Cherry , together with R ubén Velázquez Aceves , alias el Ingeniero; José Alcalá Gaytán , alias el Attitude , and Víctor Zapién Venegas Domingo , transported marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine from CJNG to various cities in California , Illinois and New York .
In 2013 the Anti-drug Agency (DEA, for its acronym in English), detected through call tapping, collaborating witnesses and infiltrators in the CJNG , the businesses that said people did with Americans for drug trafficking from Colombia and Peru .
The Cherry was arrested on August 8, 2016, in the tourist town of Puerto Vallarta , in the state of Jalisco, pursuant to a formal arrest warrant for extradition purposes.
