The announcement of the new coach of the Mexico team is getting closer. The technical director Guillermo Almada He had an interview for the position and is one of the finalists to take the position that Gerardo “Tata” Martino left free after the failure in Qatar 2022.
Almada revealed in an interview with ESPN that he was interviewed to take El Tri on the way to the 2026 World Cup and that his decision to leave Pachuca after being champion in the Apertura 2022 had nothing to do with being coach of the Mexican team.
“It caused me very good feelings, it was a very pleasant meeting in which we exchanged opinions on football and the sports project. I continue with the same desire and the same desire, because one thinks that it can be a contribution to Mexican soccer, because Mexico has very good raw material for soccer players, both in Europe and in Mexican soccer,” Almada said about El Tri.
Almada made it clear that he is interested in concentrating on sports and not the off-court problems that have involved the Mexican team as happened with Javier “Chicharito” Hernández and the case of Diego Lainez, among others.
“I worry about the sports part, not public relations or management problems, because those problems that may exist are not tangible to me, but the sports problems,” said the 53-year-old technical director.
Almada revealed that the Pachuca Group informed him of the interest in calling Marcelo Bielsa, although not as a coach but in another aspect of the Mexican team.
“What they told me is that they (Jesús and Armando Martínez) wanted Marcelo Bielsa to I was in another position, not the coach
After the announcement of Rodrigo Ares Parga as director of national teams, it is expected that it will be soon when the Mexican Football Federation announce who will be the coach. So far, reports indicate that there are only two clear options: Guillermo Almada and Miguel “Piojo” Herrera.
