Sam's Club announces the opening of 30 new stores in the US in the coming years

Walmart announced that it plans to open more than 30 new Sam’s Club branches in the following years in different cities of the United States, as part of its first expansion since 2017.

According to the company, the first location for Sam’s Club is expected to opens next year in Florida.

It also announced a process to modernize its distribution network, for which will launch five new distribution centers and supply chain compliance, with the first location planned in Georgia later this year.

Executive Director Kath McLay said that the retailer wants to reach more customersafter strong sales gains and an all-time record in membership in their current clubs.

Those 30 clubs are planned to be built in the next five years and probably more in the next two years, he said. The latest new Sam’s Club location opened in Hanover, Pennsylvania in 2017.

The new clubs will be approximately 160,000 square feet, larger than most existing locations, which are approximately 140,000 square feet.

Most of the new clubs they will have an island of sushia full-service floral area, and dedicated hearing and vision centers.

McLay said the new stores will open in high-growth suburban areaswhere Sam’s Club has few or no stores, but declined to specify the locations, citing competitive reasons.

He also declined to say how much it will cost to build the company’s clubs and e-commerce facilities.

In recent years, Sam’s Club has redesigned most of its 600 clubs, making them brighter and easier to navigate.

The brand has expanded its shopping technology into Scan & Go, a mobile app that allows shoppers scan merchandise and pay without having to wait in line in the box.

A constant growth

Walmart’s Sam’s Club has enjoyed strong sales growth and a record membership increase in the last two years.

Warehouse clubs, including Costco Wholesale Corp. and BJ’s Wholesale Club, have been a bright spot in the retail industry, but they became even more resonant during the early part of the pandemic as shoppers loaded up on essential items while staying close to home.

With rising gasoline prices and rising food inflation, shoppers They have turned to warehouse clubs looking for better deals.
