Monterey Park shooting: Authorities release full list of 11 killed in attack

were published the identities of the 11 fatalities in the mass shooting that occurred Saturday night at a dance hall in the city of Monterey Park.

Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office released the names and ages of the 11 people who died in the attack, who were between 57 and 76 years old.

The people who died in the shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio were:

  • Mi Nhan, 65 years old
  • Liliana Li, 63 years old
  • Xiujuan Yu, 57 years old
  • Muoi Ung, 67 years old
  • Hong Jian, 62 years old
  • Yu Kao, 72 years old
  • Chia Yau, 76 years old
  • Valentino Alvero, 68 years old
  • Wen Yu, 64 years old
  • Ming Ma, 72 years old
  • Diana Tom, 70 years old

The shooting that occurred at approximately 10:30 pm on Saturday mourned an entire community, made up of a majority of residents of Eastern origin.

The authorities of the city of Monterey Park invited the community to a vigil in memory of the deceased at 5:30 pm this Tuesday, January 24. in front of the Town Hall, a place where an offering with flowers, candles and other souvenirs has been installed.

On Monday night, several people gathered in front of Monterey Park City Hall to hold a candlelight vigil, and another vigil is planned for this Wednesday in front of the Star Ballroom Dance Studio, the site of the mass shooting.

The community wishes to honor as a hero to instructor Ming Ma, one of the 11 killed, by saying he sacrificed his life to confront the gunman at the dance studio, which he co-owned.

Brandon Tsay, 26, is also considered a hero for disarming the attacker, identified as Huu Can Tran, 72.when he tried to enter another dance hall in Alhambra, about two miles from Monterey Park, about 20 minutes later.

Tran was located in Torrance, inside a white cargo van in the parking lot of a shopping center, where he committed suicide after being surrounded by police vehicles.

The shooter lived in The Lakes at Hemet West, a mobile home park on the eastern edge of Hemet. He had a minimal criminal record, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff, with one arrest in 1990 for illegal possession of a firearm.

On January 7 and 9, Tran visited the Hemet police and stated that his family had tried to poison him some 10 to 20 years ago, as well as accusing relatives living in the Los Angeles area of ​​theft and fraud. The individual said that he would return to the police station with the evidence, but he never did.
