After the separation of Kosmos in the organization of the Davis Cup, Gerard Piqué could face a lawsuit by the International Tennis Federation (ITF, for its acronym in English). The body would be analyzing a lawsuit against the former player for moral damages due to the unilateral breach of the contract that his company had signed.

Kosmos was in charge of organizing the Davis Cup and did so for several years, but a few weeks ago and in the midst of the scandal over his separation from Shakira, the agreement was terminated because a consensus was not reached to lower the payment of $40 millions of dollars.

This amount of money had to be assumed by Kosmos annually plus the $10 million dollars that were distributed to the participants. The Sports Cuatro program in Spain reported that the ITF is “willing to go all the way and take Catalan to court.”

Why did Kosmos break the link?

Piqué’s company was only able to organize the Davis Cup for three years. When the announcement was made in 2018, the former player stated that it was a long-term project and the agreement was for 25 years. However, Kosmos could not comply with the agreed amounts and this led to the “unilateral” break. Another reason that could have led to the termination of the agreement was that by 2024 the economic amount would increase.

After retiring from professional soccer, Piqué and his company are leading a new seven-a-side soccer project called Kings League, which has the participation of streamers, players, and ex-soccer players.

He recently announced an agreement with FC Barcelona to bring the final phase of the contest to the Spotify Camp Nou. Fans will have the opportunity to witness the semifinal, final and third place matches.
