Irish Police (Garda) indicated this Tuesday that it will not make “comments” on international investigationsafter the Spanish authorities have supposedly reopened investigations into an alleged assault committed against a woman by wrestler Conor McGregor.
Irish media assure today that a court in Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands, is examining this incident again, allegedly occurred on the yacht of the mixed martial arts star on July 17 during a party held on board on the occasion of his 34th birthday.
According to the tabloid The Irish Sun, the woman, 42 year old Dublinerlodged a complaint with the Garda after return to Ireland a few days later and she later reported it to the Spanish policewhich launched an investigation but suspended it because the alleged victim did not make a full statement in the jurisdiction of the incident.
The reopening of the case is due to a plaintiff’s defense requestpointed out this medium, which added that the Spanish court could call McGregor to testify.
A Garda spokesman explained to EFE today that the body “does not comment” on “named persons” and He stressed that “an investigation in Spain is a matter for the Spanish authorities.”
“As with any international investigation, the Garda have cooperated with international authorities and will continue to do so at their requestthe source said.
The aforementioned tabloid today includes a statement from McGregor’s spokeswoman, Karen Kessler, in which insists that the athlete “firmly rejects any of these accusations.”
“More than six months ago the incident was alleged and after a police review, the matter did not continue,” said the spokeswoman.
