A Texas National Guard Soldier patrolling the border with Mexico as part of the controversial “Operation Lone Star” created by Governor Greg Abbott shot an immigrant in the left shoulder after an intense struggle.
Special Corporal Ángel Gallegos activated his revolver and fired at the immigrant early Sunday morning after tracking a group of immigrants with Border Patrol agents to an abandoned house west of McCallen, the Texas Tribune reported.
Gallegos, as well as another soldier from the National Guard they entered the house and three of the four immigrants who were in the place immediately surrendered, while the fourth tried to escape through the window without success; the immigrant resisted and even threw Gallegos to the ground and according to the internal Texas Army document the immigrant hit and elbowed the corporal.
After the struggle, the immigrant fell to the ground and Gallegos took the opportunity to fire his M17 pistol point blank. The immigrant received a bullet in the left shoulder and was taken to McAllen Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Is It is the first time that a member of “Operation Lone Star” has been reported to shoot an immigrant since it started in March 2021.
