CBP seized a million-dollar drug shipment at the border that was passed off as cotton candy

As border authorities intensify their efforts to prevent drug smuggling, the cartels continue to create new methods to achieve their objective.

On this occasion, an inspection carried out by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers led to the discovery of a shipment of 1.5 tons of marijuana Found inside a tractor trailer.

The discovery was made at the International Bridge in Laredo, Texas., and it was thanks to the support of canine elements that they managed to locate the drug. The driver initially claimed that he was carrying a commercial shipment of cotton candy, but upon inspection of the cargo it was determined that it was marijuana.

“CBP remains committed to advancing the mission of priority border security, while effectively facilitating legal trade and travel,” said Port of Laredo Director Albert Flores.

Said shipment is valued at 7.5 million dollarsdealing a heavy blow to the drug cartels, while special agents from Homeland Security Investigations are investigating the seizure.

It should be noted that The Laredo International Bridge is one of the areas where several drug seizures are recorded each year. Just a few weeks ago CBP agents seized almost 45 kilos of methamphetamine valued at one million dollars.
