2023 began its march several weeks ago and the projects of the Mexican boxer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez they are already underway. After a 2022 in which he suffered the second loss of his career to Russian Dmitry Bivol and he won the trilogy against Gennady Golovkin without brilliance, this new cycle awaits great challenges for the man from Guadalajara.

El Canelo revealed in December that he has planned at least two lawsuits in 2023, the first of them will be on the Cinco de Mayo weekend and the second in September. Given the refusal of the Russian Bivol to give him revenge after the embarrassment he gave him on the Mexican festive date last year, the reunion of these two colossi could take place in the light heavyweight category in September.

For Cinco de Mayo, everything seems to indicate that the interim super middleweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), John Ryder, will be the contender. The British also revealed that his fight against Canelo could be in Mexico.

Yes, after several years with all the fans begging him to return to fight in his land, finally Canelo Álvarez could fight in Mexico. This Ryder said in an interview with Matchroom Boxing:

“The promoters are in talks (…) I think that the Emirates is really the place or Las Vegas or Mexico for the weekend of May 5. Las Vegas or Mexico for the weekend of May 5. I’ll go with what they tell me”

John Ryder, 34, revealed in this way the three venues that are being managed for the return to the ring of Canelo Álvarez: the city of Las Vegas, the Emirates Stadium in London or Mexico.

“Last I heard, they were looking for the location of the fight. That’s progress from my point of view,” Ryder added in the interview.
