YouTube plans to start a test in which they will allow their users to enjoy channels for free with advertising. The idea of the platform is to be able to attract new users in such a way as to be able to compete with services such as Netflix and HBO Max, two leaders in streaming content.
The test carried out by YouTube is only available, at the moment, for a small number of users since at first YouTube wants to know if there is interest in this type of service. If the test is successful, YouTube could expand this service to the rest of the countries in which it has a presence.
In practice what YouTube intends is to offer a service similar to that provided by platforms such as Pluto TV or even Rokuthat is, to make it easier for users to consume content from television channels via the Internet.
According to a Youtube spokesperson, this service is expected to have dozens of live channels. However, the company plans for this service to be available at full capacity from the end of this year.
“We are always looking for new ways to provide viewers with a central destination to more easily find, watch and share the content that matters most to them,” said the company spokesperson.
The idea of financing this kind of services through advertising and not with the payment of a monthly membership is not something new. Well, it is a strategy that the main streaming platforms have begun to implement for a few months.
Proof of this is Netflix and Disney +, which have begun to offer their users cheaper subscription packages in exchange for incorporating advertising into the content they broadcast.

The arrival of this new service comes to accompany the content that Youtube already offers through its subscription service called Youtube Premiumwhich offers users access to exclusive content, without ads, and the ability to download videos for offline viewing.
It also includes access to additional services like YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Gaming. Users can subscribe to YouTube Premium through the YouTube mobile app or website.
Once subscribed, they can watch videos without ad interruptions, play videos in the background, and download them for offline viewing. In addition, they can also access the music library of YouTube Music Premium and exclusive content on YouTube Gaming.
