President of Peru regrets the death of dozens of protesters but maintains that she does not resign

The protests after the departure of former president Pedro Castillo have intensified throughout Peru and have left dozens of deaths, but despite this situation, the current president of that countryDina Boluarte, he said he won’t quit.

In a speech addressed to the nation late Friday night, Boluarte lamented the violence caused by the death of more than 40 people since December (most of whom were protesters who were killed in clashes with security forces), but He insisted that he remains in the position.

“Some voices coming from the violent and radical factions they ask for my resignation, causing chaos, disorder and destruction in the population”, said Boluarte in the televised speech. “I will not resign. My commitment is to Peru,” he added.

The live televised speech was broadcast after violent clashes and after some members of his government will resign to their posts in the midst of the wave of confrontations.

Also, earlier in the week, The Peruvian prosecutor’s office launched an investigation preliminary on the genocide accusations against Boluarte, in relation to the death of demonstrators in the riots.

The violent clashes in recent weeks have caused dozens of deaths and injuries. Is crisis was unleashed after the arrest of former president Pedro Castillo in December, after he tried to suspend Congress after losing an impeachment vote.

The Castillo supporters demand new elections and they ask for the dismissal of Boluarte, who took office as the country’s president after the dismissal of Castillo since she served as vice president.
