The US Department of Justice provided information on the evidence documents of five other potential witnesses who would be presenting themselves during the trial against Genaro García Luna.
This list is added to the one that had already been delivered previously, with which there would already be more than 20 people who could participate as witnesses in the trial against the former secretary of security of Mexico.
It should be noted that the identity of the people is under protection for security reasonssince they could be a key piece to determine the alleged relations that García Luna had with the Sinaloa Cartel.
This anonymity is due to an order issued on February 18, 2020, in which Judge Brian Cogan approved that certain documents and names of witnesses be protected to avoid retaliation or being victims of threats.
In this way, the information about these five potential witnesses is as “Protected Material”and it was reported that the government will release additional material related to these people well in advance of their testimony.
The drug trial against García Luna could last about three months, if the defendant does not accept the prosecutors’ offer to plead guilty and become a cooperating witness.
