Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) asked parents to take COVID tests your children before they return to school this week.

According to a letter sent to parents, LAUSD encourages students to undergo a rapid antigen test before returning to the classroom this Monday, along with another test in the week of January 16, which coincides with the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

LAUSD provided students with COVID rapid antigen tests before winter break beganmaterial that is available on all school campuses in the district.

“We will also continue to provide reminders on how to stay healthy this winter season. This includes washing your hands, getting vaccinated against COVID and flu, and recommending the use of masks during times of high transmission of respiratory viruses,” LAUSD said in the letter.

The School District letter is issued when Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials recommend that students and school workers wear face coverings for the first 10 days after they return to classroomsand thus try to avoid an increase in the number of daily infections.

“Ten days of mask wearing, as many return to work, to school, can delay transmission, minimize disruption to work and learning. Protect the most vulnerable and help make sure hospitals are not overwhelmed,” Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said last week.

It is estimated in 10 days as the coronavirus incubation period.

The request of the health authorities for the use of masks in schools and workplaces after the winter holidays It is not a mandate, but a recommendation.

However, Ferrer hopes county residents will comply with the recommendation due to high transmission numbers for both COVID and the flu.
