René Salinas Ramos, originally from the Ecuadorian city of Cuenca, is the father of two daughters and is He faces legal proceedings for the custody of the girls.currently living with their biological mother.
After months of legal battle, Salinas Ramos said he was convinced that the Ecuadorian legal system stigmatizes men while prioritizing the rights of mothers no matter the circumstances, so decided to legally change gender to equalize conditions.
Thus, the father of two girls went to the Civil Registry of Cuenca on December 30, 2022 to change your gender from male to female to fight for the custody of their daughters, affirming that the laws give more rights to the mother.
“My action is not against anyone in particular but against the system”, said Salinas Ramos in an interview with the local newspaper La Voz del Tomebamba. “Being a father in this country, Ecuador, is punished and looked at only as a provider”, he added.

Rene Salinas admitted that this measure with the current laws is something irreversible and that is “the greatest proof of love that you can give to your daughters.”
