The attorney general of MichiganDana Nessel, reopened her criminal investigation into fake voters who signed a certificate claiming that the former president donald trump won in state at 2020 electionwhen it didn’t.

Nessel, a Democrat who previously referred the matter to federal prosecutors, told reporters she is “a little concerned” because it has been more than a year since she referred cases involving the fake voter lists to the Justice Department and she believes there is “clear evidence” to support the criminal charges against Michigan’s false voters.

“What we have seen from the January 6 committee is an overwhelming amount of evidence. I thought there was already a substantial amount of evidence in that case. But now, there is clear evidence to support the charges against those 16 false voters, at least in our state,” Nessel said.

“Honestly, yes, we are reopening our investigation because I don’t know what the federal government plans to do,” the Michigan attorney general added.

In December 2020, Michigan voters cast 16 votes in favor of Biden, following his 2.8 percentage point victory in the 2020 state election over Trump. But a separate group tried to enter the state Capitol with Trump’s Electoral College candidates to overturn the election result.

In addition, the federal government notified the state that he had received signed unofficial certificates from Republican voters. The group included Meshawn Maddock, co-chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.

The invalid certificates were also mailed to the United States Senate, the Michigan secretary of state, and a federal court in western Michigan.

“There is clear evidence to support the charges against those 16 false voters,” Nessel told reporters, highlighting the work of the House committee investigating the post-election 2021 assault on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. 2021.

In response, the state Republican Party accused the attorney general of “engaging in political theater” and using tax dollars to “perpetually persecute her political enemies.”

The entire investigation by the House January 6 committee, now in the possession of Justice Department prosecutors working under special counsel Jack Smith, shows Trump’s role in promoting alternative lists of voters, lobbying state officials to overturn the election results, attempting to replace the acting attorney general with someone who would embrace allegations of voter fraud and lay the groundwork for calling his supporters to occupy the US Capitol.

That includes the efforts of Donald Trump’s team in Michigan, as recently released testimony from state officials revealed new details about the campaign’s involvement and the former president’s legal team to reverse in your favor the result of the elections in that state.
