Los Angeles Dodgers officially released controversial pitcher Trevor Bauer and they also preferred to cancel the $22.5 million corresponding to 2023, before continuing to carry the player on their roster. The information was confirmed on the team’s social networks, which also indicated that the pitcher will be sent to assignment to finally be released.

It’s important to note that the Dodgers have seven days for someone to claim it. If that time passes, any team would have a chance to sign him as a free agent for at least $720,000.

It should be noted that the decision comes two weeks after the Cy Young winner had his sanction reduced from 324 games to 194which would mean the immediate return to the diamonds, however the remaining 50 games would be discounted for the start of the 2023 season. This situation gave the Dodgers a period of 14 days to decide the future of the pitcher and they finally took the said measure.

“The Dodgers organization believes that allegations of sexual assault or domestic violence should be fully investigated, with due process for those accused. From the beginning, we have fully cooperated with Major League Baseball’s investigation and have strictly followed the process outlined in MLB’s Joint Policy on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse.“, says the Dodgers statement released through their social networks.

“Two exhaustive reviews of all available evidence in this case, one by Commissioner Manfred and one by a neutral arbitrator, concluded that Mr. Bauer’s actions warranted the longest active suspension in our sport for violations of this policy. Now that this process has been completed, and after careful consideration, we have decided that he will no longer be a part of our organization.“, the statement concluded.

Trevor Bauer’s reaction

Trevor Bauer was surprised by the Dodgers’ decision, however, he stated that he will respect it and wished his former teammates success and he was even grateful to the team since he considers that they have given him the necessary support in this time, however he pointed out that the time had come to shine with another team.

Bauer who joined the Dodgers in February 2021 on a three-year, $102 million contractwas accused by a woman of assault during two sexual encounters with the pitcher who denied having acted badly at all times, and later was denounced by two more women, a fact that led the MLB commissioner to announce the well-known sanction of 324 games.
