Delta frequent flyers get free in-flight WiFi starting in February

Julian Castillo

Delta and T-Mobile announced that starting in February they will begin offering Completely free WiFi for all those passengers who are part of the SkyMiles program or who are frequent travelers.

This new service comes to fill the gap that existed for many users because although T-Mobile currently offers free Wi-Fi on Delta flights, this is limited to people who have a contract with the operator. However, from now on this benefit can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of which company they subscribe to.

According to Delta, At first, the free Wi-Fi service will be available on the airline’s domestic flights and they hope that by the end of the year they will be able to offer it on approximately 700 aircraft. The plan is that once 2024 arrives they can extend the coverage to international flights, which will further expand the number of users benefited with free Internet access.

They pointed out that in order to use the Internet connection, users will need to have a SkyMiles number that is free and is obtained by registering in Delta’s frequent flyer program.

Kevin McLaughlin, a senior vice president at T-Mobile, reported that the service will not have a session limit and will work on the Viasat network.

Despite the fact that the WiFi service will be free, everything indicates that the operator will implement an advertising system that will force passengers who wish to connect to the network to have to see a certain number of advertisements before being able to access the Internet. In this way, the company ensures a mechanism to monetize the service and extend its advertising service to a greater number of users.

Coverage Beyond

T-Mobile’s announcement comes after In June of last year, the operator launched Coverage Beyond, a service package that provides benefits to its users.. Among them, the possibility of having access to high-speed data in more than 210 countries around the world stands out. At the time, the company explained that these benefits would be reserved for those subscribers of the Magenta Max and Business Unlimited Ultimate plans.

Coverage Beyond coverage included flights from airlines such as American Airlines, Delta, Alaska and United, so the number of users benefited from this free WiFi service was significant. It should be noted that in addition to all this, passengers could also enjoy free streaming during flights.
