How to know if the headlights of your vehicle are correctly oriented

Ronald Ortega

Headlights are a very important part of a vehicle as they provide illumination on the road and help improve driver visibility at night or in low light conditions.

In addition, they also play an important role in road safety by helping other drivers detect the presence of the vehicle and avoid collisions. Therefore, it is essential to keep your headlights in good condition and to use them correctly to ensure the safety of all road users.

In this way, it is vital to know if they are well positioned, since it could make the difference between preventing an accident and living one. Given this, we present several ways to ensure that the headlights of your vehicle are well oriented.

Prevent instead of regret

Check your owner’s manual: many vehicles come with detailed instructions on how to adjust the headlights.

Use a headlight adjustment tool: Some auto parts stores sell special tools that will help you fine-tune your vehicle’s headlights.

Use a wall or a flat surface: park your vehicle 25 to 50 feet from a wall or flat surface. Then turn on your headlights and check to see if the light beam is level and not projecting up or down. If necessary, adjust the headlights until they are aimed correctly.

Help from a friend: If you are not sure how to adjust the headlights, ask a friend to help you. One person can sit in the driver’s seat and adjust the headlights while the other person is out of the vehicle, telling you if the beam is too high or too low.

Finally, you should be aware that if your vehicle’s headlights are misdirected, you may not be providing adequate lighting for the road and may be disturbing other drivers. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the headlights are correctly aimed.
