This Friday the House returned to session after a handful of hardline conservatives, led by Florida Republican Matt Gaetz, said they remained hell-bent on “derailing McCarthy’s candidacy.”

After a first advance in the negotiations that was put on the table, the Republicans who resisted voting for McCarthy in the end turned their vote towards their leader, but in the 12th ballot they did not succeed.

Although a better result was expected in the next vote McCarthy got 214 votesJeffries followed with 2012 and others received 6. McCarthy not moving forward is due to a hard core of six so called “Never Kevin’s” that have stood firm.

After this result, McCarty was confident that he would have the votes tonight to become a speaker. “I will have the votes”McCarthy told CNN good-naturedly.

“I think we will have the votes to end this once and for all,” he also noted that once the Chamber returns, at 10 p.m., they will finally reach an agreement. “As we have taken so long, now we have learned to govern. So now we can finish the job.”

McCarthy is optimistic

after thursday McCarthy failed to reach the minimum votes In an astonishing 11th attempt to win as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, the House’s conservative minority leader is still optimistic.

“I felt very positive yesterday. Today I feel more positive.” McCarthy said as he left the Capitol for the night.

In an interview with NBC, a Republican indicated that McCarthy had a conference call with some members of his party this Friday morning to discuss the situation “(they are) establishing the parameters of an agreement. But there is no real deal yet.”

“I’m not telling you that we have an agreement”McCarthy said at one point, according to two people. “We are in a good position and having meetings.”
