West Virginia officials found human remains Thursday amid the search for Gretchen Fleming, 28, who was last seen during the early hours of December 4 at My Way Lounge in Parkersburg, where she left with an unidentified man..
Her family reported her missing on December 12.
About two hours from Parkersburg, where Fleming disappeared, suspicious human remains were found in Elm Grove.according to the WTOV chain.
Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard told the FOX affiliate that officers were led to the suspicious human remains Thursday after his office received a call from another department about a missing person.
Howard said the remains were taken to Kepner Funeral Home, where a medical examiner will conduct an investigation.
Parkersburg Police Lt. James Stalnaker previously told Fox News Digital that an unidentified man is a person of interest.
“He is a person of interest in this investigation,” Stalnaker said. “We know that she went with him. We believe that she traveled back to her residence with him. She has given inconsistent statements.”
“By his own admission, she was at one point in his vehicle, but he claims she did not make it to his house,” he said. “There is no indication that they met before tonight.”
Stalnaker also said Fleming left her bag at the bar, which contained her phone, debit and credit cards.
According to police, Fleming showed up at the bar with another person.
