Although it implements a new protection plan for some 30,000 immigrants a monthPresident Joe Biden warned that those people who cross the border irregularly will be expelled or deported expeditiously under Title 42 or Title 8.
The new program will benefit immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuelathe same as it already does with people from Venezuela and Ukraine.
The president made it clear that the request must be made through the “CBP one” application to obtain an appointment, otherwise the immigrant will not be received. This is not asylum protection, but a temporary waiver of deportation.
“My message is this: if you are trying to get out of Cuba, Nicaragua or Haiti, you have agreed to start a trip to the United States, no, don’t just show up at the border,” Biden said. “Stay where you are and apply legally. Starting today, if you do not apply through the legal process, you will not be eligible for this new probation program”.
In a press conference at the White House, accompanied by Vice President Kamala Harris, the president insisted on the application of Title 42, because “it is the law”, although he said that it may end at the end of this year.
Biden mentioned “title 9”, but later rectified that Title 8 will apply, as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has advanced. This measure allows the expedited deportation of people who do not have the right to asylum, in addition to a five-year punishment to prevent their entry into the United States.
Prior to the press conference, the White House confirmed the expansion of expedited removals.
“Effective immediately, persons attempting to enter the United States without permission…will be subject to a expedited removal to their country of origin and subject to a five-year punishment prohibition of re-entry ”, it was warned.
