The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department released Tuesday a body camera video showing the moments before an officer shoots and kills a man who was allegedly armed with a meat cleaver.

The incident occurred on November 12 at around 3:30 p.m. in Cabazon.

Kenneth Wallis, 38, was riding his bike on the wrong side of Carmen Avenue when an officer stopped him, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Chad Bianco said that the agent knew that Wallis had an active warrant for his arrest for a felony.

“Wallis initially stopped and dismounted his bike when asked to do so by the officer, but was uncooperative with any further instructions,” Bianco said in a pre-produced video released by the department.

Wallis can be heard in the video saying that he has a gun. At one point, she dares the sheriff to shoot her, who then turns his gun on her.

“Call your (expletive) office because I am the antichrist,” Wallis yelled at the sheriff. “You keep harassing me!”

Wallis said “I only come here to have peace” and then tries to ride his bike away and the officer pushes him from behind.

After being pushed, Wallis pulls out what the department says was a 6-inch meat cleaver. The sheriff opened fire several times, and Wallis died at the scene.

The shooting is under investigation.
