NFL will not hold seasonal games in Mexico in 2023 due to renovations to Estadio Azteca

Peter O’Reilly, executive vice president of the NFL, announced this Wednesday that there will be no NFL game in Mexico this season due to the renovations that the Azteca Stadium will undergo for the World Cup in .

The vice president explained that the NFL is working so that the game that was scheduled to take place in the City de México is held in Germany, a country where two games would be held.

It is the second time that the NFL has canceled a regular season game at the Azteca Stadium, the first time was at the 2019, when the match between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams was taken to another venue due to the poor conditions of the turf at the the Mexican capital.

In this 2020 five regular season games were held outside USA.

The Estadio Azteca in Mexico City has hosted five regular season games since 1970, when the 19ers and the Cardinals. The second was in 2016 with the Texans-Raiders, in 2016 the turn was for Patriots and Raiders; in 2020 Chiefs-Chargers collided.
