Winter storm moves into the northeastern US with snowfall and power outages

The winter storm that meteorologists have dubbed Díaz advances this Thursday with snow and ice towards the northeastern United States States after causing about twenty tornadoes this week and leaving hundreds of thousands of residents without electricity in the last few hours.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said today that the “powerful and huge storm continues to move across the north of the country and into Florida” after leaving at least three dead in Louisiana.

“Conditions for heavy snowfall continue , gales and poor visibility due to snow in the Midwest, while sleet rains began in the central Appalachian region and parts of the Northeast,” the agency added.

The NWS also warned of the possibility of more tornadoes and windstorms in Florida.

The storm had already left destruction in Louisiana this week, killing three people, including a minor, due to tornadoes.

The Poweroutage.us platform reported that, due to the storm, there were some 175, users without electricity in Wisconsin (54.), Minnesota (46.350), Michigan (54.450), Pennsylvania (04.), West Virginia (14.450) and Louisiana (11.100).

Meanwhile, a center of low pressure caused freezing rains and snowfalls in the region central Iowa and in some parts of the state snow accumulation reached about 8 centimeters and temperatures were below 0 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists forecast for the Des Moines region a low of 9 degrees Celsius below zero on Friday and for Saturday 15 Celsius below zero.

The Residents of St. Louis, Missouri, began their day today with minus 2 degrees Celsius and forecasters, who predicted a minimum of almost minus 6 degrees Celsius for Saturday, warned that the city can expect snowfall from the weekend.
