After it was made public that the former chief of staff of the White House, Mark Meadows , exchanged more than 2 thousand text messages where elaborated the plot to annul the elections 2020, in one of those texts the representative of South Carolina, Ralph Norman called for Martial Law. Now the Republican seeks to justify his radical action after the series of sentences he has received.

The 17 January 2020, days after the attack on the Capitol and three days before the inauguration of Joe Biden, the representative Ralph Norman from South Carolina sent Mark Meadows a text message, which was posted by the Talking Points Memo portal.

“Mark, seeing what is happening so fast and reading about the domain lawsuits trying to stop any meaningful investigation we are at a point of no return to save our Republic! Our LAST HOPE is to invoke the Marshall Law! PLEASE URGE THE PRESIDENT TO DO IT!!” is what Norman wrote.

As soon as the message was made public, the sentences did not wait. First of all, the congressman had a spelling mistake, since instead of Marshall Law as he writes, he rather refers to Martial Law.

Analyst Tom Nichols explained Norman’s message to The Atlantic: “This is a member of the US Congress insisting to a jumble of exclamation points and capital letters, that a sitting president call on the men and women of the United States military to nullify an election and prevent it by force of arms the constitutional transfer of power. This is sedition, and it is madness” .

Rep. Ralph Norman’s office, feeling pressured to explain his radical message, sent a statement justifying his words.

“Obviously, martial law was never justified. That text message came from a source of frustration, after countless unanswered questions about the integrity of ‘s) elections , without any way to slow down and examine those issues before the inauguration of the new president-elect,” the statement read.

In addition to this writing, the Republican from South Carolina spoke with the HuffPost newspaper where he stated: “I was very frustrated then, I am frustrated now. He was frustrated then by what was happening at the Capitol. President Biden was in his basement all year. Dominion was raising all kinds of questions.”

The two of them,000904 text messages between Chief of Staff Mark Meadows with 60 members of Congress, are already in the hands of the members of the Committee investigating the insurrection of Capitol on January 6, 2020.

It is important to explain that the Martial Law is a statute of exception of application of the ordinary legal norms, normally regulated in the Constitution of the State, by means of which extraordinary powers are granted to the armed forces or the police for the protection of public order . Martial Law is applied in an armed conflict that is usually preceded by an official declaration of a state of war or to quell rebellions.
