Biden and Zelensky talk about the peace plan in Ukraine and the “unprecedented” support of the United States

The US president, Joe Biden, supported this Sunday the will of his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky, to reach “a just peace” based on the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

On call By phone, Biden assured Zelensky that boosting Ukraine’s defense system was a priority for the United States. He also welcomed Zelensky’s “declared openness to a just peace based on the fundamental principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations”.

In his telephone conversation, held on the eve of the virtual G7 summit, Biden also underlined his country’s commitment to continue offering Ukraine economic, humanitarian aid and defensive and to hold Russia to account “for its war crimes and atrocities”.

The US president spoke with his counterpart to reiterate his country’s support for Ukraine’s defense while that country continues suffering attacks on its critical infrastructure.

For his part, Volodimir Zelensky of Ukraine ” appreciated” the assistance that the United States provides to Ukraine, noting that it contributes “to success on the battlefield and supports the stability of the Ukrainian economy.”

Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, Ukraine’s president welcomed “unprecedented” help for his conflict-torn country to bolster its defense and its financial fronts.

“I appreciated the unprecedented advocacy and financial assistance that the United States provides Ukraine”, said Zelensky, “This not only contributes to success on the battlefield, but also supports the stability of the Ukrainian economy.”

On the damage to Ukrainian energy networks due to repeated Russian missile attacks, Zelensky stressed that “Ukraine appreciates the help provided by the United States to restore the energy system ”.

Biden ended by explaining that his country prioritizes efforts to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense.

Zelensky, for his part, noted on Twitter that their conversation was “fruitful” and served to coordinate positions before the G7 summit and to talk about greater security cooperation.
