Consummated on failure of the Mexican National Team in the Qatar World Cup 2022, Many They are the ones marked for disaster. The main one is the coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino , who already announced that he is no longer in charge of El Tri. His decisions, highly questioned, are the main cause of the bad closing of the cycle, although this is not entirely true for Carlos Vela.

The Mexican striker, recent MLS champion with LAFC, reviewed of what happened in the World Cup and came out in defense of Tata Martino , whom he surprisingly praised for his way of being and working.

Without taking away your degree of responsibility in the prompt elimination of Mexico, Carlos Vela considered in conversation with LA Times that you have to review in depth what is failing from the organization and not limit yourself to throwing out and placing another coach.

“Everyone has things they did not do well n, I don’t think he’s entirely to blame (…) We know that in the world of football, when something doesn’t go wrong, the easiest thing to do is grab the coach and remove him, we don’t really see in depth what the problem could be”

The scorer of 13 years, who excluded himself from the Gerardo Martino and El Tri process to focus on LAFC and MLS, also had great words for the Argentine coach, whom he considered an honest and direct person with what he wants and that’s how he communicates.

“The few times I spoke with him he was always a person who transmitted good things to me, which was very clear with what he wanted, very direct with what he thought and did. And I like those kinds of people. It seems to me interesting people who always come from the front and talk to you as they have to talk to you and tell you what they have to tell you,” he said.

Vela also left a message for the Mexican Football Federation (FMF ) and all the senior staff that make decisions for the national teams:

“You really have to make a self-criticism of everything in depth, of what we are doing wrong as Mexicans, as players, as managers, as coaches; that those who have to change have to move and change and not simply say ‘ah, I did my part or I’ll take mine away’”.

“But Carlos Vela’s criticism and thought of change and added: “If we continue like this we will always be in the same situation. I think it’s something that has to be done or those who are in the federation have to do (…) Not just what I’m telling you, you change three or four people and everything is solved”, pointed out the Mexican striker.
